Health and Hygiene
In the event of an accident, it is vital to have first aid supplies available. It is also important to maintain a hygienic environment for your child. Some key ideas to consider, and safety products relevant to this area are listed below:
-
Add an ICE (In Case of Emergency) number to your mobile phone list, by storing the letters ICE in front of the name and phone number of someone able to make decisions on your behalf. Many emergency professionals now check to see if you have an ICE number in your mobile phone if you are involved in an emergency situation.
-
Think about doing an approved first aid course such as those offered by St John Ambulance Australia.
-
Ensure your First Aid Kit is adequately stocked.
-
Check that the supplies in your First Aid Kit are within their use-by dates.
-
Have an easy to follow medical/first aid book such as “When Your Child Is Ill”
-
Have a good Clinical Thermometer, Dummy Thermometer, Ear Thermometer or Fever Monitor to keep an eye on your child's temperature when they're unwell.
-
Have a good Medicine Syringe or dummy-shaped Medicator to administer medication safely and easily.
-
Have a good Medicine Spoon with stopper so that you can take a measured dosage with you when you' re out.
-
Have a good quality Silicone Finger Toothbrush for when those first baby teeth arrive. This can be used from birth to 18 months. Note: under twelve months of age, no toothpaste is to be used, just water.
-
Have a Children’s Cold Pack or a Hot/Cold Gel Pack available for injuries.
