Rumpus / Toy Room Safety
You need to maintain the rumpus/toy room as a safe environment to ensure your children are protected while they play. Some key ideas to consider and relevant safety products for this area are listed below:
-
It is safer to use plastic crates for toys instead of toy boxes as the lid can easily be removed and replaced.
-
If you have a toy box, it should have a removable lid, ventilation holes; hydraulic support arm, rubber stoppers and be locked at all times when not in use.
-
Monitor the floor for small or sharp objects (nothing smaller than a film canister).
-
Inspect toys for sharp edges, rough surfaces, finger traps, weak construction, long strings or ribbons.
-
Batteries in toys should be secured and only able to be removed by using a screwdriver.
-
Gates can set great boundaries for safe play areas.
-
Take note of the recommended age-group when buying toys.
